Turn a Per-Credit Rate Into a Real Total
A rate means little until you multiply it by the credits you need. Pfeiffer University lists $400 per credit across 33 credits, which comes to $13,200. Murray State's public administration option lists $16,974 total with fees included. Carlow University lists $800 per credit for 30 credits, which is about $24,000. Its program takes one year.
Credit systems differ too, and they can change which is the cheapest forensic accounting degree for you. Purdue University Global and the University of Northwestern Ohio run on quarters, with 180 quarter credits for the bachelor's. If you're comparing against a semester school, ask each school for a full program estimate.
Both add useful extras. You can try classes at Purdue Global for three weeks at no cost, and it gives credit for prior learning. Northwestern Ohio starts accounting classes in your first quarter.
Always ask for a written cost estimate that lists fees, books and any technology charges.
Bachelor's Degrees That Respect Your Budget
For the cheapest forensic accounting degree at the bachelor's level by published rate, Fort Hays State University lists online undergraduate tuition of $275.65 per credit. The degree is built jointly by its accounting and criminal justice faculty. Louisiana State University Alexandria charges a flat $353. It runs seven-week terms with six starts a year, and up to 75 percent of the degree can come from transfer credit.
Southern New Hampshire University lists $354 per credit for its fraud examination concentration, with eight-week terms, a free application and up to 90 transfer credits. If you're an active-duty service member, you pay $250. Champlain College lists $342 and also accepts up to 90 transfer credits.
Purdue University Global lists $371 per quarter credit ($556.50 per semester credit) for a forensic accountancy concentration. Franklin University lists $398 with a Tuition Guarantee and up to 94 transferable credits. Each takes a distinct route: Champlain's digital forensics labs, Franklin's six- and twelve-week courses, Purdue Global's analytics core.
Graduate Options That Keep Costs Down
If you already hold a bachelor's degree, a certificate can be the smallest step. Neumann University's 12-credit certificate lists $9,300 and applies every credit to its master's. Seton Hill, George Mason and West Virginia each list a 12-credit certificate whose courses can stack into a master's degree.
Among master's degrees, Murray State's Master of Business Administration (MBA) lists $606 per credit with fees included. Stevenson University lists $719 with no fees. SUNY Polytechnic Institute lists $471 for New York residents and $565 for non-residents. Colorado State University Global backs its $675 rate with a tuition-rate guarantee.
The median published master's rate in this field is $775 per credit. Rates range from $400 to $1,185, so you've got plenty of room to choose.
Ask About Aid Before You Rule Anything Out
Listed rates are a starting point. The University of New Haven lists scholarships and assistantships that reach 50 percent off tuition. York College of Pennsylvania offers discounts for partner employers, alumni and government employees. Champlain College lists lower rates for veterans and alumni. Lakeland University reports that you can earn up to a quarter of the degree through paid cooperative education work.
Ask your employer about tuition reimbursement as well. Amberton University staff help with transfer credits, planning and tuition reimbursement. If you're a working adult, its pay-per-course tuition suits you. A short call to admissions often turns up options a tuition page never mentions.
