Curriculum
Curriculum and Required Courses
You'll take four required courses, three credits each. Fraud Investigation opens the sequence with types of fraud, the documents involved, where evidence comes from, and how internal and external schemes work. Fraud Data Analysis moves to computer-aided techniques for detecting and investigating fraud, including how digital evidence is collected and how data is pulled from electronic devices.
Fraud: Criminology/Legal Issues covers theories of criminal behavior, laws, rules of evidence, the rights of people being interviewed, report writing and ethics. Advanced Fraud Investigation closes the certificate with litigation support, complex schemes that grow out of collusion and management override, and interviewing and testifying in a moot court.
Across the four, WVU says you'll evaluate real-world evidence, sharpen interviewing technique and take part in comprehensive case simulations. The program page also points to global asset tracking, money laundering patterns and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
The catalog lists outcomes such as applying electronic techniques and data mining to identify fraud, completing fraud examinations that meet judicial standards, and documenting and communicating forensic analysis on valuations, financial reporting fraud and litigation.
