Curriculum

Three Concentrations and the Core Courses

Two courses carry the fraud material. In Fraud Examination, you'll learn the principles and methodology of fraud detection and deterrence. Topics include skimming, cash larceny, check tampering, register disbursement schemes, billing schemes, and payroll and expense reimbursement schemes, along with non-cash misappropriations, corruption, fraudulent financial statements and interviewing witnesses.

Advanced Fraud Examination goes further into the growing field of fraud examination and forensic accounting. You'll cover criminology and ethics, complex frauds and financial crimes, and cyber crime. It continues into consulting, litigation support and expert witness engagements, remediation and litigation advisory services, and careers in the field.

The rest of the concentration builds your professional base around those two. You'll take Internal Audit I, Internal Audit II, Income Taxation and Database Applications in Accounting and Finance, plus six credits of accounting or finance electives. The accounting core adds courses such as Auditing I and Cost Accounting, and the department publishes career-infused degree maps so you can see how the pieces fit.
